In January 2020 I gave a talk on Fanny Wilkinson, Britain’s first professional woman landscape gardener, to FOLAR (Friends of the Landscape Archive at Reading University).
The talk is now available to view online here.
This talk is based on my research on Fanny Wilkinson contained in Enterprising Women: the Garretts and their circle. This is the story of a group of women around the Garrett family, who in the second half of the nineteenth century and the early years of the twentieth changed the position of women in Britain forever.
Published by Francis Boutle, 2002, reprinted, 2009. 338pp 75 illus paperback £25 plus £3.90 postage.

Hi Liz I really enjoyed this (although a bit of an echo develops about half way through). What a role model for women not underselling themselves. Carole

I’m afraid I had no control over the filming/sound. Don’t think the feedback/echo was due to anything I did! Mind you, I had an incredibly painful eye that evening..just happened out of the blue..so was conscious that delivery was less than optimal..But hope the gist was delivered..
